Mint. An odd choice for an incense scent. I never think to myself ‘that toothpaste smells good’ or ‘man I’m digging the smell of that packet of gum’ so a mint incense stick just seemed a bit strange to me, but since Kuumba are known for their strange and funky scents, I knew I’d be getting something interesting.
Upon opening the packet, as you’d expect, I was hit with a strong smell of toothpaste. At this point, I thought I had sussed this scent out and thought I knew exactly what to expect. I was wrong.
Once lit, it did, just smell as I expected it to smell. Very minty. I sat there with a smug look on my face, reeling in my ability to figure out a scents just by sniffing the stick before lighting it, but after a 5 or 10 minutes, the aromas started to change. It toned down a little. The smell of mint was still evident, but as it settled down, it became a lot cleaner and not as overpowering. I found myself really enjoying the scent. What I loved about it was its simplicity. At times it was mellow, but every now and then, you’d get a real hit of mint. It wasn’t full of complex notes that you'd struggle to identify and I found that it remained consistent throughout the burn.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by it and have since burnt another 2 sticks. I think it’s the perfect scent for the morning, something to really freshen up the room and get you on your way. I have a packet of spearmint which I’m already looking forward to burning.
Scent: Crisp and fresh.
